Under Water Ball at VISUAL, Carlow

VISUAL is pleased to present Under Water Ball, a solo exhibition by Ulla von Brandenburg in the Main Gallery.

Over the last 20 years, von Brandenburg has developed an acclaimed practice blending painting, textiles, film and performance. Under Water Ball marks the first time she has exhibited in Ireland in 15 years, and is the largest exhibition of her work in the country to date.

The exhibition consists of a site-specific, immersive installation of large-scale textile and sculptural works, and includes the European premiere of von Brandenburg’s latest film, co-commissioned by VISUAL. (Un bal sous l’eau, 2023).

Puppet making, performance and storytelling will form part of the learning programme running alongside the exhibition. VISUAL has also developed a summer programme of workshops, summer camps and school tours. There will also be a sustainability summer school for adults this August 16-18.

A shadow puppet theatre has been handcrafted by the VISUAL team and is located upstairs in the gallery. The space is free for people to perform their own shadow puppet show with space for an audience.

The exhibition at VISUAL in Carlow is free and runs until August 25th, 2024.  Admission times are from 11am-5.30pm Tuesday-Saturday and 2pm-5pm Sunday.
